We are a team of students (boys and girls ages 13-15) from Aurora, Ontario. Our journey began in September 2014 as a FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics Team participating in the World Class Challenge. Our mission is to help visually impaired children learn Braille with technology.
Treasure Box Braille Learning System
With our team of mentors from CNIB, Perkins School for the Blind, Georgia Tech and Tactalis, we developed an innovation that will open up a world of possibilities for blind children who want to learn how to read and learn basic math.
In 2015, our idea was recognized by the First Lego League as one of the top 20 innovations from around the world for the Global Innovation Award presented by XPRIZE.
We won the Mission Globalization Award in the Canadian Scholarship Trust’s Learning Project competition. As a result, CST Consultants awarded the team $10,000 to put toward product development.
We are now partnered with VentureLAB, Lassonde School of Engineering, York University and Deloitte who are helping us develop our prototype, expand our network and learn business skills as young entrepreneurs.
Global Learning XPRIZE
Our team is also registered with the Global Learning XPRIZE competition where teams from around the world are collaborating to develop tablet based learning software for children in the developing world.
“Through our innovative self-directed learning systems,
we are working toward making a difference in the lives of children around the world”.
